This Is as Far from The Original Fast and The Furious as you can get let me think about this, back in 2001 we had a movie about street racers, custom cars, and wild driving stunts your basic action movie elements. Like most franchise movies it had a trilogy that fell under this formula and then BANG they added story elements which included heists and spying now we have an official spin off and WOW did they ever go way off the chart with this one…

The biggest loser in all of this Fast & Furious franchise isn’t the fans yeah, it’s pretty much Tyrese (What more do you want from me?). This movie was action from the start it contained all the elements that you want in a mindless summer flick. There was one major thing that I felt it really didn’t need, and that was a connection to the Fast and the Furious franchise. I mean, I get it, you saved some time on having people knowing the back story of the characters but you needed no knowledge of the 2 main characters at all to actually watch and enjoy this movie. Yes, I said I enjoyed this movie but for different reasons than someone who may have actually been a fan of the Fast and the Furious franchise. I mean I liked the Original 3 films because I got to see over the top custom, pimp my ride styled cars which in the early 2000s was pretty fun to watch. As the movies evolved into the action/heist/save the world drama II was cool with it but not overly joyed but it was an acquired taste (I mean we jumping cars between two buildings and using nitrous like it was water.

In Hobbs and Shaw we have found a way to have Jason Statham and The Rock save the world in their own unique way and not be grounded semi in reality by Vin Diesel and the crew. The movie was a spy thriller more in the set of an 80s or 90s action flick (you know deadly virus on the loose and two unlikely heroes have to save the day).

Aside from that I really enjoyed watching it with the cameos from Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart Hobbs & Shaw provided that mindless getaway from reality people expect from a summer action movie.

Don’t break your necks for premium formats though and see it as a reduced-price matinee if you just want to get out and see a movie until the next big blockbuster hits the theaters.

Hobbs & Shaw get a hearty 3.6 on the GoingFullNerd 5-point scale.
