Blockbusters: The Karate Kid

Published: Sept. 25, 2020, 2 a.m.

Journey with us back to 1984, as we follow the tale of Daniel LaRusso and his bully Johnny, who wears his shorts WAY too short, even for the 80’s. Daniel and his mom move from the crowded, rude, hellscape that is the east coast to beautiful, sunny California, where everyone is friendly and helpful--nope. Instead, Daniel is welcomed by being run off the road on his bicycle (yes, a kid’s bicycle) by guys on motorcycles who are 3-4 years older than him, because that’s badass. He decides to fight back by learning karate, from a book... His “elderly” super, who is 55 and happens to be a karate master, learns of Daniel’s dilemma and decides to take on this project and get some help with chores around the house. We learn of Jennie’s karate career and Amye insists that no one who went to this movie wanted to watch a movie about karate. They challenge Johnny and his dojo, who are all obviously on extra doses of testosterone, to a battle in an upcoming tournament. Daniel lives. Cut to black.
