It took two and a half years from Abraham Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation for the news to reach Texas.  It was on June 19th 1865 that the Union soldiers landed at Galveston with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.   Several events are planned around Galveston, and we encourage everyone to visit the Juneteenth Statue located at Ashton Villa, in front of the Galveston Island Visitor Center at 23rd and Broadway (image shown on this podcast preview).  Many other events also happening this weekend including the Juneteenth Fish Fry, Beach Patrol BBQ fundraiser, sandcastle lessons, ghost bus tours, vollyball competitions, kayaking, sailing, beach explorations, historic tours, educational presentations, Juneteeenth fathers day BBQ, and much more.  Hear them all on this edition of the Galveston Experience Podcast as well as complete details on the CALENDAR page at www.GalvestonExperience.com
