I was talking to someone this week about her experience at the Garth Brooks concert(s) that just took place in Edmonton last weekend. As she described it, she just shook her head in disbelief. “It was mind-blowing. Tens of 1000’s of people in a stadium all singing and moving together to songs that have resonated so deeply for many of us for years”. She said, “It’s hard to describe what happens in moments like that”. What moments come to your mind when you reflect on past concerts or musical experiences that moved you deeply? For thousands of years, music has played a large role in people’s spiritual journeys. What exactly it’s done or is doing has been largely a mystery. But recent research is suggesting that these experiences are vital to human flourishing. We’re going to talk about this on Sunday while experiencing some beautiful music together. If you’re not out camping or vacationing, carve out some time to join us in the spiritual gym. We’ll see you then.
