Have you had experiences like I have, where you meet people who think God is just a mean and angry God?

They point to stories in the Old Testament like the flood, when God destroyed everything on planet earth except Noah and his family and 2 of every kind of animal.

Or they refer to times in the Bible when God commanded the Israelites to capture a city and destroy everyone in it.

But there is one story that they miss entirely.

Many people think God is a mean and angry God, but the Bible is filled with many examples of God's love, mercy and grace to those everyone else had rejected. #Foundational #Jesus #Bible #OnlineBibleStudy #podcast

Rahab was the city prostitute who helped Israelite spies to spy out Jericho so that they could escape unharmed. In her encounter with them, she chooses to believe in the Living God.

God rewarded her faith by sparing her and her family when the Israelites conquered the city of Jericho.

Does it seem odd to you that its the city prostitute that's spared?

It gets stranger later on in Scripture, because she marries a Jewish man from the tribe of Judah and becomes the great-great grandma of King David and is in the bloodline of Jesus Christ.

"Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah." Matthew 1:5-6

"But He [Jesus] needed to go through Samaria." John 4:4

1. Jesus stopped by the well at Sychar because there is a divine encounter coming

  • There is a woman who has been married five times and is living with a man she's not married to
  • She is an outcast
  • But not an outcast to Jesus
  • She received salvation that day

"She said, 'No one, Lord.' And Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.'"John 8:11

2. The religious rulers trying to trap Jesus brings an adulterous to him whom they had found meeting with a man

  • They throw her at his feet and are ready to stone her for adultery
  • Jesus kneels down and starts writing things in the sand
  • All of her accusers turn around and walk away
  • Jesus didn't condemn her

God picks a prostitute to be in the bloodline of our Lord, Jesus makes a special trip to bring a woman who has lived a broken life, and an openly sinful woman is thrown at his feet He brings justifcation instead of judgement.

God wants us to have it clear in our heart and mind that He is a God of righteousness and justice who must punish sin, but He is also a God of love and mercy and grace.

Like two sides of same coin.

God desires for us to live the blessed life, not under the curse. We live under the curse only because we choose to live in sin ra
