Film Fallout Podcast #22 - The BFG

Spielberg is back with a movie that is clearly a DOOM reference, but he refuses to acknowledge it. Instead, the esteemed director plays it off like its a Roald Dahl adaptation about a big friendly giant (BFG). Dylan Schwan and Christopher Cross lift the curtain behind Spielberg's latest and discuss Mark Rylance's performance, the history of Roald Dahl adaptations, why this feels like a film that is from another era, and how much we can stomach fart jokes. In fact, we discuss how much we can stomach fart jokes even more when Dylan talks about Swiss Army Man, starring Daniel Radcliffe as a farting corpse and Paul Dano as the man who finds him stranded on a beach. Also stranded is Blake Lively in The Shallows, which has her stuck on a rock and fighting for survival against a shark. Meanwhile, Chris saw The Phenom, a movie where Ethan Hawke plays an abusive, alcoholic Dad who used to be good at baseball and now exerts all his energy onto his son's baseball career. There's also some news and more deaths in Hollywood to cement 2016 as a real bummer. Plus, the blu-ray releases are plentiful this week. Tune in next week though when we discuss The Secret Life of Pets.
