Film Fallout Podcast #155 - Barry'd Under the Guava Lake

Published: April 17, 2019, 11:11 p.m.

Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan take a journey through the lands of Hollywood and beyond with David Robert Mitchell's third feature, Under the Silver Lake. Do they find a satirical and comedic take on the Hollywood noir or a misogynistic and messy portrayal of a man oogling his way through a city where men fail upward? This is the place where we'll let you know what we think. The boys finally decide to fill you in on all the tv that's premiered over the last couple months with their takes on Barry, What We Do in the Shadows, The Twilight Zone, and Game of Thrones. Dylan takes the time to tell you about the new "Childish Gambino film", Guava Island. Is it a beautiful tribute to movies made about specific points of culture and gangster films like City of God or is it made just to make Donald Glover look good? Dylan also talks about the latest Claire Denis film, High Life. What's the fuck box? There is plenty of discussion of the fuck box. Next week, they take a week away from new releases to tell you about some of the old Kaiju films directed by Ishiro Honda that are on the Criterion Channel!
