Film Fallout Podcast #132 - Bad Times on La Luna

Published: Oct. 17, 2018, 8:05 p.m.

Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan have found their way from the depths of the sea and decide to stay at the El Royale to dry off. Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale is our main review of the week and we parse through the 2 hour and 20 minute long neo-noir mystery thriller. Is this just another film made as homage or rather an original creation that stands on its own merits. Has Goddard improved even more as a director since The Cabin in the Woods? Is Chris Hemsworth actually necessary here? While it was a big week for releases, we were able to catch a few like the new film from Damien Chazelle, First Man. Does it feel like something he's made before or is this something brand new for him? Is his collaboration with Ryan Gosling still fruitful? After that, we get to talking about Gareth Evans' new film for Netflix, Apostle. Can he comfortably handle the horror genre after his spectacular VHS 2 short? Are his movies becoming too long and unwieldy? We're here to let you know. Next week, Chris and Dylan come to terms with their trauma of a masked killer in the new film from David Gordon Green, Halloween.
