On The Road In Kathmandu, Nepal-Thamel Morning

Hello and Namaste from Kathmandu, Nepal! I am currently on a multi-week journey of South Asia with several cities on my itinerary. For the last few weeks I have been trekking in the Annapurna region visiting some of the most beautiful villages in the country.

I wrapped up my trekking trip with a few days in Pokhara, the second largest city in the country that sits on picturesque Phewa Lake. It was wonderful experience filled with cycling trips around the town including an afternoon traveling to one of the Buddhist refugee camps as well as a hike up to the World Peace Pagoda with lovely views of the lake and a peekaboo look at the Annapurna range of the Himalaya.

I am now in Kathmandu once again enjoying Tihar(Diwali), the festival of lights celebration, my third year in a row!

Festival season is one of the best times of the year to visit Nepal with rituals and traditions that have been carrying on the same way for hundreds of years.

My daily routine almost always include an early morning walk through Thamel, the tourist section of the city to Durbar Square with many stops along the way to photograph activity at the local markets as people prepare for celebrations.

In this podcast I take you on a typical walk through some of the most vibrant markets and meetings places of Kathmandu. I hope you enjoy these special edition podcasts on the road from South Asia! Namaste and safe travels!
