The 'Rad'est Movie of the 1980s Finally Gets a Blu-Ray Release!

Originally released in 1986 during the rise of the BMX bike craze, Rad had every kid going nuts while trying to perform the tricks seen on screen. Many of my friends had broken a limb or two trying to perform the stunts by Cru Jones (Bill Allen) and all the other well known racers of the time.

As the power of pop cultural nostalgia continues to chug along, it is only fitting that Rad is transferring over form VHS to digital and disc formats with a newly restored 4K version from its original negative by Fotokem.

The look on my stoic cousin's face said it all when he heard about the release of Rad coming to digital via Altavod and via 4K and Blu-ray through Robert Schwartzmann's Utopia Distribution. Shartzmann is the son of the late Jack Schwartzman and Talia Shire, who played Cru's mom in the film and has been apart of two of the largest franchises in film history, including The Godfather and Rocky.

We caught up with Schwartzman and Shire about celebrating this film, the legacy his father left behind and the huge cult following that not influenced pop culture but racing culture as well.

Rad is currently available on VOD and will be on disc format, Friday, July 24, 2020.
