Academy Award nominated actor, Edward James Olmos went from playing a teacher in Stand and Deliver to becoming one thanks to the Latino Film Institute and the Youth Cinema Program.

The program, which has been around since 1998 continues to strive and help at-risk youth from grades 4 through 12 across and the country and have recently expanded into the nation of Panama, but don't think this is just for Latino students, the program is open to all children and teens interested in participating, when available in their local schools.

#YCPLiveReads has extended the program at through May 15, 2020. As film projects could not be completed because of COVID-19, the Youth Cinema Program and Mr. Olmos have transitioned to a live stream every Wednesday with full replays available as a live table read for the scripts in production.

The organization is also streaming the films produced last year that were completed and look forward to what will come in 2021 as well.

We spoke with Mr. Olmos about the the Youth Cinema Program and all the positive effects it has had on the lives of students through out the years and not just through the arts, but improvement in their other studies, including mathamatics and the sciences, along with social skills and confidence building. We also discuss aspects of Latino culture and its influence on American society and for the first time ever, Mr. Olmos publicly endorses a candidate for President of the United States of America.
