Episode 15: The Secret is Empathy

Published: July 3, 2020, 5 a.m.

In this episode, Tom and Chris discuss the role of First Responders in Crisis Intervention.  They discuss what it means to be in Crisis and the fact that a Crisis state is the perception of the person experiencing it.  It is important to acknowledge the person's feelings and strive to understand what they are going through.

Tom asked about using Police Crisis Negotiators for current issues around the country with protesters.  Chris gave his opinion that based on the current climate, it may be difficult for police negotiators to be objective due to anti-police sentiment.  This would make it very difficult for them to be effective.

Tom and Chris discussed the idea of law enforcement as a whole shifting towards a more empathetic approach at a patrol level.
