After a grueling 3-month period that leaves the Enterprise crew exhausted and in dire need of rest and relaxation, they discover a planet that\'s literally too good to be true: peaceful, lush, idyllic, seemingly uninhabited and, in the words of Dr. McCoy, "like something out of Alice in Wonderland" -- in other words, the perfect place for Captain Kirk to authorize shore leave. But when members of the scouting party start to have mysterious encounters with figments of their imagination, they soon find themselves trapped on a world where their imaginations could be their own worst enemies. "Shore Leave" is an atypical episode of "Star Trek"; there\'s simply no other episode quite like it. It\'s loaded with humor, but it\'s dramatic when it needs to be, and it\'s surreal to the point where it feels more like a fantasy than science fiction. But it is a testament to the actors and the producers that it all still works within the framework of "Star Trek," resulting in an episode that\'s fresh, fun and very entertaining. Plus it gives a lot of background into Captain Kirk\'s past...with sometimes painful results!
