Episode 45: The Happy Black Therapist with Chantelle Oguadimma

Published: Sept. 7, 2021, 8 a.m.

Today’s episode is all about building your dreams out of necessity. Our guest, Chantelle Oguadimma, AKA The Happy Black Therapist, joins us to share how she took her education and experience in a moment of desperation as a new mom to create a behavioral health residential facility for adults. Chantelle shares with us her upbringing and nurturing that supported her confidence in her career and how she birthed her child as a single mother and used her maternity leave to become an entrepreneur. I just love this conversation because Chantelle shares the real down to earth struggles, how necessity forced her to dream big and take risky action. Today she shares how she created her behavioral health clinic, the philosophy and approaches that have proven to work to treat trauma and addiction, and how she is taking a stand in the community to provide education and connection around mental health, which is commonly believed to not exist in the communities she serves and in her own culture.

What we’re talking about...

  • Becoming an entrepreneur.
  • The reality of barriers in your journey and giving yourself no other option than to figure it out.
  • Cultural competency and cultural discrepancies in what healing means for the black, especially nigerian, community and native american community.
  • The power of mind body connection
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma Treatment
  • The power of community in healing
