“Education is a great way to uplift humanity.” Phil Powell, the Associate Dean of Academic Programs at the IU Kelley School of Business at IUPUI, is passionate about using higher education to cultivate talent for Indiana companies. Phil grew up wanting to change the world and discovered through trial and error that understanding markets was the most beneficial method. Now, as an enthusiastic economist, Phil discusses the juxtaposition that the US is currently experiencing: Better jobs and working environments, but more poor people. Since the talent pipeline and solution to poverty starts by increasing support in early childhood education, the IU Kelley School of Business is working to change the culture of education in Indianapolis. In addition to the talent shortage, Phil touches on their work broadening business opportunities and bringing innovation to healthcare. Break out your compass to start drawing your demand curve as Phil sheds light on many of the drivers of economic and social problems and solutions in Indianapolis, highlights the impact of IU Kelley School of Business’ efforts, and even shares the story his first cup of coffee, which happened at 40 years old. Drink deep of the culture that surrounds you this week with Phil Powell from IU Kelley School of Business at IUPUI.
