Ep 47 - 'We're Good For Marriages'

Published: July 26, 2018, 1:59 a.m.

This week Caroline Wilson and Corrie Perkin delve into Australian politics as Super Saturday looms. With 5 seats in four states having a byelection – what will the results mean for Bill Shorten and Malcolm Tunrbull? We talk political advisors and reports of huge salaries and ponder why advisors wages shouldn’t be made public and question just what the role of a political advisor is. Caro shares some strong thoughts about potential AFL rule change testing towards the end of the season following Gillon McLachlan’s on air revelations this week. And in the literary world, Corrie runs us through the rather surprising Man Booker Prize Longlist announced this week. In ‘BSF’ Caro’s been reading Salley Vicker’s “The Librarian” and has been off to the Swedish Film Festival to see “Under the Tree”. Plus Caro’s cooked up a beautiful Coconut Chicken Noodle Soup fit for a magazine cover (courtesy of the July edition of Delicious Magazine). The hypocrisy of major supermarkets and their approach to minimising plastic is making Caro grumpy this week and in ‘6 Quick Questions’ more annoying buzz words, favourite Spring bulbs and can you tell a person’s age by the way they text? Plus Caro’s got a caring and sharing ‘GLT’ for book fans.  Don't Shoot The Messenger is produced, engineered and edited by Jane Nield for Crocmedia Pty Ltd.  Send an email to Caro and Corrie via 'feedback@dontshootpod.com.au'.    The 2018 longlist, or Man Booker ‘Dozen’, of 13 novels, is: Author (country/territory)          Title (imprint)Belinda Bauer (UK)                      Snap (Bantam Press) Anna Burns (UK)                          Milkman (Faber & Faber) Nick Drnaso (USA)                       Sabrina (Granta Books) Esi Edugyan (Canada)                 Washington Black (Serpent’s Tail) Guy Gunaratne (UK)                    In Our Mad And Furious City (Tinder Press) Daisy Johnson (UK)                     Everything Under (Jonathan Cape) Rachel Kushner (USA)                The Mars Room (Jonathan Cape) Sophie Mackintosh (UK)              The Water Cure (Hamish Hamilton) Michael Ondaatje (Canada)         Warlight (Jonathan Cape) Richard Powers (USA)                 The Overstory (William Heinemann) Robin Robertson (UK)                  The Long Take (Picador) Sally Rooney (Ireland)                  Normal People (Faber & Faber) Donal Ryan (Ireland)                    From A Low And Quiet Sea (Doubleday Ireland)         Learn more about your ad choices.
