Episode 10| Zarathustra Joys and Passions and the Pale Criminal |Ethics, Life Coaches and Murder

Published: July 15, 2019, 8 p.m.

In the tenth episode of Dissecting Philosophy with Dr McDonald, he discusses the sections Of Joys and Passions and Of the Pale Criminal in Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

The episode discusses the creation of ethics without metaphysics or God. This is related to life coaches, motivational speakers and the film Yes Man (2008). The episode also deals with Nietzsche's portrayal of a murderer who justifies killing according to an ethical principle. This is illustrated with a talk about the character Rodin Raskolnikov in Dostoyevski's Crime and Punishment.
