With so many polarising opinions out there about ADHD, it is difficult to sort fact from fiction when it comes to making the choices that are best for your child.

That is why I reached out to the author of Taking Charge of ADHD, Dr Russel Barkley who has over 40 years working in the field. Dr Barkley has written 32 books, 300 scientific papers and given over 800 talks all around the globe on the subject of ADHD. In our conversation today we start with Dr Barkley giving us a rundown of what ADHD is from a clinical and executive functioning perspective and the extent of its persistence in adulthood. He then debunks the myth surrounding the prevalence of ADHD in current society as opposed to the past and delves into what exactly is happening in the brain of a child with ADHD.

We also talk about the causes of ADHD and Dr Barkley gives us a stark reality check as he informs us about the alarming statistics concerning people with ADHD. We end off this fascinating and very informative discussion with Dr Barkley providing us with a few of the 12 guiding principles for raising children with ADHD from his new book.

For any parent, grandparent or teacher of an ADHD child, this is a must-listen episode, and with my own daughter recently diagnosed with ADHD, I know it was a great eye-opener and gave me a lot of food for thought. Now over to my conversation with Dr Barkley
