EP 69: Hair Loss and PCOS

Published: Sept. 22, 2021, 7 a.m.

Today on the show we are going to address a very pressing experience which is faced by many women who have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and that is hair loss. If you are experiencing PCOS-related hair loss this can be very distressing and the negative side effects of many of the conventional approaches to treatment only add insult to injury. Thankfully there are quite a number of alternative approaches based on functional medicine. In this episode, Dr. Minni starts by explaining the four phases of hair growth and addressing the hormonal imbalances caused by PCOS that lead to hair loss. We then take a closer look at some of the mainstream approaches to treatment and the hormonal side effects these can have. Dr. Minni then speaks to the gentler methods of addressing this issue, many of which are focused on treating the cause rather than the symptom. So if you are experiencing hair loss, remember that your diet, lifestyle, and methods of processing stress can play a big role in coping as well as a treatment!
