EP 63: PCOS and Genetics

Published: June 30, 2021, 7 a.m.

The association between genetic predisposition and PCOS risk is largely unknown but a few studies point to a possible connection. Fortunately, if any risk does exist, the lifestyle choices we make can help to mitigate it. In today’s episode, we explore how genetics influences Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, beginning with a few studies whose results point to ways in which different genes can be associated with PCOS risk. From there, Dr. Minni unpacks a few of the shortcomings and limitations of these studies, also making recommendations for the need to conduct further studies to more deeply explore certain findings. While these studies can be confusing to understand, we can rest assured that if there is a danger lurking in our genetics, by following Dr. Minni’s COPE methodology, we can make the environment in our bodies as disease-resistant as possible. You are not at the mercy of your genetics!
