Put your own oxygen mask on first.
\nSeemingly innocuous, a reminder to engage in self-care, which I'm totally all about.
\nHowever,
\nWhen you're struggling in life and doing your best and nothing seems to be helping this is not a helpful statement.
\nYou know that self-care is important.
\nYou know you need to look after yourself.
\nBut sometimes\xa0
\nYou can't find the mask, or\xa0
\nYours hasn't dropped down, or
\nYou don't know how to put it on, or\xa0
\nYou look at it and can't remember what it is.
\nWhilst the air hosts were explaining what happens in the safety instructions,\xa0
\nSomeone was talking to you, or
\nYou were running through the to do list of what needs to happen when you hop off your flight, or
\nYour mind was consumed with worry about an ongoing problem or
\nit had taken all your energy just to get on the plane you were exhausted
\nOr all of the above.
\nIt's not always that easy.
