Research Chemicals with a Psychoactive Twist

Published: Jan. 19, 2022, 3:17 p.m.

On this episode, we are joined by Dr. Amelia Furbish, PharmD (PhD candidate) and P4 USC College of Pharmacy student, Jordan Staires, to discuss various classes of psychoactive research pharmaceuticals. We review benzodiazepines, cathinones, tryptamines, phenethylamines, Kratom, benzedrex, phenibut, and more. While many medications in these classes have a promising future in clinical psychiatry, some are used recreationally. For that reason, we go over adverse effects, drug-drug interactions, and other aspects of their pharmacology that pharmacists and other healthcare providers should be familiar with.
