In “Obedience is Better”, Rodney shares that we live in a world that the measure of success is productivity and performance. We feel the pressure from the, “What have you done for me lately?” crowd. This constant pressure to always be productive and perform can come at a cost. Sometimes our family, privacy, rest, and ethics have suffered as a result. Truth be told, there is no real separation between who we are and what we do. Reality is, our life is not divided into silos. We are to live a consistent life. When we separate what we do from who we are we inevitably fail at both. Obedience is the better more God-pleasing way to live. God’s rules and words aren’t general guidelines meant to be sometimes broken. God’s rules and words are to be obeyed and followed completely. A Godly “Christian Ethic” demands congruency in the way we live and who we are. God’s commands aren’t to be compartmentalized or followed when convenient; they are to be obeyed completely even when we don’t understand. God isn’t as pleased with rituals or mouths filled with worship songs as he is worship from a heart that is completely obedient to God’s commands.
