104: Food Becomes You

Bonnie Tragakis and Claire Duckmanton are dynamic health coaches
who share a love for eating nourishing foods, finding balance in
their lives, and making peace with cooking for their finicky
families. With their passion for all things food, Claire and Bonnie
launched Food Becomes you – a venture to help people make their way
back into the kitchen in a practical way while guiding them through
the minefield of mysterious food marketing and health messages we
hear every day. Coming from very different viewpoints (Claire eats
mostly plants; Bonnie eats everything!), Bonnie and Claire give you
a balanced approach to what many consider a difficult way of
eating.  This motivating program helps you reconnect with
wholesome, minimally processed, real food and move away from
calorie-counting, a dieting mentality, and the less-than-optimal
food choices widely available in the supermarkets.  Practical
tips, loads of recipe ideas and a firm grounding in eating for
health are the cornerstone of their approach. 

With their combined knowledge, warm approach, and sense of
humor, Bonnie and Claire share a passion to inspire you to
change your life through food!

Welcome to Food Becomes You! What started
as a project with me and Claire has blossomed into a full-blown
passion – we love to help people connect with real, whole,
close-to-nature food, as well as identify the “stuff” that gets in
the way of eating these foods and truly nourishing ourselves. My
path to this passion began with a lifelong obsession with food,
starting with an eating disorder as a young person, and continuing
with disordered eating most of my life. When I finally made a true
connection between the food I was choosing and how I was feeling, I
was able to stabilize my eating and fall in love with food in a new
way. No longer tied to restrictive eating habits and food-industry
prescribed boxes and meals, I branched out to organic options,
grass-fed meat and mouth-watering, made-from-scratch recipes. This
new-found love of food and my awakened awareness led me to the
Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Claire, and Food Becomes
You!
 

The first thing people notice about me is
my English accent, even though I’ve lived in New England for almost
20 years!  I have always loved food, so arriving in the States
to boxed cake mixes, pasta with delightful packets of orange cheese
and the aroma and ease of Dunkin Donuts had me absolutely convinced
that my husband and I had made the right decision to move here.
 I loved it all… until I started putting on weight,
experiencing mood swings, and feeling anxious too much of the time.
I turned to Weight Watchers to help me lose pregnancy weight – and
returned to it time and again to re-lose the weight that just kept
coming back.  I had been a vegetarian on and off my entire
adult life, but not a healthy one. I loved bread, cheese, eggs,
quiche; everything that wasn’t green. One day I came across a vegan
cookbook and decided to work through the recipes. After eating more
greens and smoothies, I started feeling better; my mood swings and
anxiety decreased and the weight came off…and stayed off! I decided
to attend the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, met Bonnie, and
the rest is Food Becomes You history!  My passion is to help
people connect to an eating style and healthy lifestyle that is the
right fit for them in a fun and realistic way.
