b'Ashtamoortih: One who takes eight forms and protects the beings. The 5 elements, sun, moon and Jiva form the Eight-fold Nature or Ashtadhaa prakriti with which the creation is made. For each of these, there is a specific form of Lord Shiva. The eight forms of Lord Shiva are Bhava - water, Sharva - earth, Rudra - fire, Ugra - air, Bheema - space, Mahaadeva - moon, Eeshaana - Sun, Pashuupati - Jiva or embodied soul. All these eight element forms are collectively called as Vishvambhara . There are also Pancha-bhuta lingas in South India where each of the 5 elements is depicted as a linga in a temple.
