CTS_ep62 Christmas Horror- Rare Exports

Published: Dec. 25, 2016, 2:07 a.m.

After an unexpected hiatus, Chewing the Scenery is back with a special Christmas release, talking about the Finnish film, “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale” (2010). Will thinks this story idea is Finntastic. Normally, the episodes drop every Tuesday, but Santa has something a little different in store for you, dear listeners. Hosts Will and Richard are joined by Krampus expert Mike C, who holds a Masters in German Studies and teaches a college course in German Folklore. “But this movie is set in Finland” you say, “what can this professor possibly tell us about their dark Christmas stuff?” you say. Hold on to your reindeer! Mike has been to Finland, loves “Black Metal” and has possibly eaten some of Santa’s team. Your hosts and their guest briefly take the 2015 movie “Krampus” to task, but get distracted by the far more interesting source material. As we get older and discard Santa, the Krampus invites us to the dark side, where drinking and scaring small children is the true spirit of Christmas. After all, isn’t that what makes life worth living? And, as this all catches on in the U.S., maybe a “Sexy Krampus” will arise, following what Halloween has become! This episode discusses legalized marijuana and the missed opportunity to properly name a local party bus, as well as life on Denver’s Capitol Hill, back when it was gritty and dangerous. There’s a joke that kills in the Dakotas and talk of the scraggly, dirty old Santas as seen in this movie. Did we mention they’re nude? Did we further mention that they have a heightened sense of smell when it comes to gingerbread and small children? Well, just wait for the squares to go to bed and fire up the episode that will drive the CanniBus into the realm of humanoid trafficking that you never dreamed possible!
