Episode 89 completes our scenic tour of the 1980’s horror movies. We hope you enjoy the lovely yet damaged cathedral , but warn you not to get stuck inside. There are strange things afoot as well as writing problems galore in “The Church” (1989). Before heading into "The Church", your hosts discuss a few depressing European films Jolyon has indulged in while off the leash. Jolyon also recounts one movie so scary that his young self could hardly wait for the adverts just to get a break. Speaking of commercials, Will watched “The Wizard of Oz” (1939) and it took less time, since it had no ads. He really liked it, in case you were wondering. And what about the paintings of Boris Vallejo? Will doesn’t like them. At all. Not a single one...even though they have the fittest witches you’ve ever seen. Then “The Church”. Your hosts are divided on it, but at least agree that it has fun elements, looks good and has some crazy stuff you don’t see all the time. And it has that one guy whose face really rings a bell. It also may have a crotchless goat suit, which wouldn’t be the most inappropriate thing about the movie! Inappropriate stuff? Will chalks that up to being Italian! Putting mayo on your roasted chicken pizza? Chalk that up to being Japanese! Again, be careful about getting trapped inside “The Church”, since (like all good churches) it has a self-destruct device built right in!
