Episode 108 is an episode dedicated to the masterpiece of film known as “Psycho” (1960). Alfred Hitchcock took everything that was reliably successful for him in a string of great films and put it aside. The brilliance of super saturated Technicolor and a star-studded cast were traded for a Black and White film of mostly unknown actors in a story based on a brand-new novel by Robert Bloch. The most recognizable star’s character is killed off about 20 minutes into the film. How did it do? The movie was wildly successful both in terms of critical response and box office returns. But that’s not all. Alfred Hitchcock gave us one of the most iconic sequences in cinematic history- the shower scene. These 78 setups and 52 cuts, set to Bernard Herrmann’s score still hold up today.
