PREDICTABLY, NEW ZEALAND BANS GUNS Intro: As widely predicted, the prime minister of New Zealand announced her peaceful nation will ban all so-called assault rifles. Traditionally New Zealand has been one of the safest developed nations on earth. Time will tell if this national gun-grab will raise or lower violence in the island state. Weighing in with the opinion that curtailing gun ownership rights will raise gun violence, is Dave Workman, spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation. Q&A: First off, does Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s decision to ban guns surprise you? Why do you feel this gun ban will raise crime and violence in New Zealand when so many progressives say it will make things safer for our neighbors down under? What historical statistics do you have making your case that banning guns raises crime? The dilemma in banning guns is that it represents forfeiture of the previously legal property so the government plans on paying people for their guns. With an estimated 1.2 million guns in New Zealand, that comes to at least $120 million based on a low figure of $100 per gun. From time to time we hear about the law of unintended consequences kicking in after far-reaching decisions such as national legislation. What unexpected occurrences might we expect from this? Where may we get more information on the 2nd Amendment Foundation and gun rights issues?
