This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Established by legislation in 1975 as a self-supporting independent public corporation, the Utah Housing Corporation serves our state’s affordable housing needs. To date, it has financed more than 100,300 mortgages for Utah’s homebuyers. Grant Whitaker, president and CEO of the Utah Housing Corporation, is here to tell us more. Grant Whitaker At Utah Housing Corporation, we provide mortgages and down payment assistance to qualified homebuyers through private sector lenders. We also provide resources to private developers for affordable apartment projects by raising billions of dollars in the capital markets. One hundred thousand moderate income Utahns have purchased their homes through our mortgage programs, and more than 30,000 affordable rental units around the state have been financed. Utah Housing creates solutions for seniors, veterans, homeless, people with disabilities, refugees, and victims of domestic violence. Despite the statewide challenges caused by COVID-19, we are operating fully and even breaking records as we work mostly remotely. Although we have temporarily closed our building to visitors, all of our employees are still fully paid, and we’ve even filled three new positions since March. At Utah Housing Corporation, we are grateful we can continue to serve Utah’s housing needs through finance and innovation. Derek Miller We are pleased to hear that the Utah Housing Corporation is fully functional as it continues to make housing more affordable for Utahns. Learn more at utahhousingcorp.org.
