This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Design, roots, and engineering. These characterize DPS Skis, one of the world’s premier brands and a Utah success story. These three words also characterize how DPS Skis is working through the coronavirus, taking care of its employees, while serving our community. Alex Adema, president and CEO, is here to tell us more. ALEX ADEMA DPS Skis was affected by the pandemic early on, when we saw its impact on the European ski season – particularly in Italy. Then, when Colorado closed its season and Utah followed, we began working with our designers and engineers to see what we could do to help the community. Personal protective equipment was in short supply, and we realized we had the tools to make face shields for health care professionals and first responders. Bill Harmon of Goal Zero and Tom Adams of Petzl threw in their support, and now we’re producing 80,000 face shields for Utah’s Department of Health. This has been a rewarding experience for our companies – giving us a sense of purpose and high morale – and it has allowed us to support our employees and and their families through these challenging times. DEREK MILLER DPS Skis, Petzl, and Goal Zero – three international companies with a home in Utah, serving our community and setting an example as we lead together to reopen our economy and emerge even stronger for the experience. I’m Derek Miller, of the Salt Lake Chamber, and this is “Speaking on Business.” Originally aired: April 27, 2020.
