The Godfather (1972) 50th Anniversary

Published: March 11, 2022, 10 a.m.

Today’s show is a discussion and review of one of cinema's most iconic films, Francis Ford Coppola’s Mafia Masterpiece, The Godfather, which celebrates its 50th anniversary March 14th.

This is a long episode because it's Del's favorite film of all time and worked on it for weeks, but trust me when I say this podcast has no dead space.  Every second is filled with productive discussion about The Godfather.  The original cut of this podcast was 4 hours, so you are getting the as much cuts as Del would allow our sound engineer Gary.  I will tell you that this is a fantastic episode, especially for fans of the film.

Because of this film’s place in cinema history, film academics, critics, documentarians, and many of the best amateur film analysts have beat this film down to a pulp.  So instead of our usual style of film review, we are going to pay tribute to The Godfather by leaning more into our Anniversary style of film review, talking more about history, factoids, events, and basically highlighting interesting stories surrounding the film, it’s cast and crew, and its significance.  Main difference between our anniversary show and today’s show is this is a normal drop, or what we call our Flagship episode, so it’s gonna be our usual Friday Show length.

In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into The Godfather.

Finally, we would like to thank Eli, Leigh, and George for their contributions to this episode.
