Today’s show is an anniversary film of one of our favorite films of all time, 1977’s Burt Reynolds classic SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT which celebrates its 45th anniversary on May 27, 2022.

You might have noticed that this is not a 30-minute show.  That’s because this film has so much to talk about that we felt it was more worthy of a full episode.   

Directed by legendary stuntman, Hal Needham, the story of how Smokey and the Bandit came to be is quite an interesting tale.  Needham’s original plan was that the film would be a “cheapie” or low-budget car movie that he could make for a measly one million dollars.  Having never written a script before, let alone direct a movie, Needham let his buddy Burt Reynolds read the script.  Reynolds, not one to pull punches, said it was the worst script he had ever read.  However, Reynolds said if Needham could get funding and the green light from the studio, he would star in the movie.  The rest is movie-making history.    

In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into Smokey and the Bandit.
