Death Becomes Her (1992) 30th Anniversary

Published: July 29, 2022, 9 a.m.

Today’s show is an anniversary film voted on by YOU, the listener, it’s the Robert Zemeckis comedy classic, 1992’s Death Becomes Her, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on July 31.

Made on a budget of $55M, Death Becomes her was considered a financial and critical flop, grossing just $58M domestically but grossing $90M internationally to bring a total of $149M.  Written by David Koepp of Jurassic Park fame, Universal sent the screenplay to Robert Zemeckis, who was just coming off filming the end of his Back to the Future franchise and was searching for a new hit.  As a child, one of Zemeckis’ favorite films growing up was the 1972 Halloween classic, Tales From the Crypt.  He envisioned Death Becomes Her as a sequel to this movie and was currently serving as a producer on the HBO series of the same name.
