Mandy Preece is a soul midwife and a tutor at the Soul Midwives\\u2019 School. In 2013, Mandy initiated a volunteer bedside companion scheme at Macmillan Caring Locally (an NHS palliative care unit in Dorset), teaching volunteers how to support people at the end of their life and to sit with those who are dying alone. In 2017 her training was awarded the Princess Royal Training Award for best practice, since which Mandy also initiated the Being Rock program a listening training developed for professionals. In 2019 she was named NHS Unsung Hero Award Volunteer of the Year and is now part of a Helpforce Steering Group introducing volunteer roles within the NHS.
