In today’s world, trying to get married has become... a hot mess. So, to all the COVID brides to have been, grooms and wedding professionals: you’re not alone. Welcome to Bride To Have Been, a StudioPod original podcast hosted by Emily Lewis, with the purpose of building a community by sharing the reality of this new normal in the wedding industry. Let’s keep inspiring each other and celebrate the thing we treasure the most: love.

Fabulous. That’s the way our bride and guest this week, Keyaira Adewunmi, likes things. So when COVID-19 hit and her plans for a dream experiential wedding in Africa had to be put on hold indefinitely, she had to think fast and come up with a completely new plan. In the end, Keyaira managed to pull off a chic and spectacular experience alongside the love of her life in November 2020, breaking every single rule in the traditional wedding playbook along the way. Listen now to hear how Keyaira says she has grown through this experience and what she believes is most important to prioritize when it comes to planning a wedding.

(19:47) - Why building generational wealth was Keyaira’s priority - “Looking at the budget for the wedding, we were like ‘ooofff ’. It became clearer and clearer, why would we spend 35K on a wedding, when we could use that money to put down a house?”

(22:58) - From an experiential wedding to a fabulous elopement - “I knew that if I couldn\'t do what I really wanted to do, then I’d have to do something completely different.”

(28:27) - I’m doing it my way: On Keyaira’s exquisite wedding - “I had to find a way to still keep the fabulous energy that I really wanted from the wedding and bring it to just us. I knew that was going to be the aesthetic.”

(45:08) - Keyaira’s takeaways from 2020, and her advice for brides - “If anything, I hope my elopement can be of inspiration to people to just go out and to have an experience specifically for themselves.”
