Episode 020: Building Body Trust Through Intuitive Eating With Kaitlin Bolt-Lovett

Published: June 30, 2020, 7 a.m.

In this episode, we sit down with:

Kaitlin Bolt-Lovett is a Registered Dietitian whose private practice embraces each unique individual and works to empower through reflection and education. She focuses FIRST on the relationship with food and body with a goal of creating confidence and harmony between mind and body. She values the personal intricacies of each client’s experience and approaches the relationship with a tailored perspective.

After battling through her own sport induced eating disorder for over 2 decades, Kaitlin wanted to build a private practice based on healing relationships with both food and body. Through her own experiences and continuing education, she found the social justice movement HAES(R), intuitive eating, and taking an inclusive approach to her work to be powerful and compelling. She emphasizes creating a safe space for clients to feel empowered to explore their relationship with themselves while provides an opportunity to turn inward instead of constantly looking to the external. This generates a self-awareness and trust that can break through the societal bias’s that often work against our ability to feel WHOLE.

What we talk about:

I always felt like I never fit in highschool,I needed some sort of external validation thru something, It felt really good to have a relationship with someone, just bonding with another girls without thinking in my health, I am a very sensitive indivual and introvert, purging helped me with my feeling of comfort, as much as I was surrounded by people, I was lonely, you put so much stress in your body when you purge, It was not always a safe space for me, sometimes I was forced to eat, when you're in your eating disorder, you're seeking control, I wasn´t able to distract or numb the pain that I was feeling, there was so much pressure in a lot of things that I was not sure about, the first time that I had the sense of myself outside of a team was at work, I didn´t know how to not be busy, slow down and be quiet, there was something that I missed and I needed to still find, It´s okay, this is going to take time to feel comfortable, you need to get to this point instead of restricting yourself, my body wasn´t functioning as I wanted to, I was in pain, what is it look like to be in your own space?, I will not be silent, I will speak for myself, letting go of that perfection of being loud, at some point we have to allow ourselves to grow and change, we always need to learn to grow

"I have to start listening to my body because I´ve tried a lot of things and that didn't work"
