More about Scott Murphy: 

Scott is a lifelong resident of McLean County who currently lives in Bloomington IL. He is married to Dr. Jan Murphy, the Provost at
Illinois State University where she has served as a faculty member and administrator for over 30 years. Scott has twin step-children. Myles is a CPA in Chicago. Maggie is a product design specialist at Purina in S. Louis.  

Scott was born in McLean, Illinois, and attended Ben Funk Grade School and Olympia High School. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1980 with a B.S. in Business Administration and has been farming in the McLean area since 1982. He has been involved in agriculture in McLean County his entire life. From 1979 to 2002 he contracted with area seed companies to organize detassling crews, employing hundreds of local youth and young adults. From 1990 to 2004, Scott also owned and operated facilities in Shirley and Wapella Illinois to provide custom drying of seed corn to larger companies. In 1999, Scott established his current business, Scott Murphy and Associates (www.seedequipment.com), selling used equipment to the seed industry in over 25 countries worldwide. In 2019 he sold his business. 

Scott and Jan are active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Scott has been a member of the board of the Children’s Home and Aid Society in Bloomington since 2006. He served as a volunteer wrestling coach at Olympia High School from 1989 to 1995, and is still an active volunteer in the McLean County wrestling community. Scott is also an active supporter of local FFA organizations. Scott and Jan are avid Illinois State University Redbird fans and supporters and are members of the University’s Courtsiders Club, providing financial and academic support to women’s basketball team members.  

Scott holds a divemaster in SCUBA from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. He holds a private pilot certificate. He is licensed to purchase possess and detonate high explosives. He holds an advanced belt in Tae Know Do and has fought mixed martial arts. He has ridden bulls in rodeos and jumped from airplanes.
