Maria Ceferatti joins Jeff in the Blind Abilities Virtual Studio via Zoom Cloud Meetings, Maria using her iPhone with the Zoom App and Jeff back at the Blind Abilities Studio on his Mac with the Zoom Pro Account up and running. Jeff uses the Zoom recording feature as a backup just in case something goes wrong with his main recording.

Maria talks about the dynamics and challenges her family are adjusting to since she started working from home and her son Simon started schooling from home as well.

From keeping on schedule, working through accessing math papers, to using this time to enhance Life Skills and work on sharpening some skills that will pay off when Simon heads to college and the dorm life, it seems like they got it worked out pretty good.

Join Maria and Jeff as we learn how with the Grace of God and some patience, everything is going to be all right. Now if we can only get that lag time out of the internet so the String Ensembles can stay in rhythm.

National Homework Hotline for Blind/Visually Impaired Students (NHH-BVI) 

The National Homework Hotline for Blind/Visually Impaired Students (NHH-BVI) is a free service for K-12 and college students in the United States who are experiencing school closures due to COVID-19.

Areas of hotline help include, but are not limited to: 

• JAWS
• Voice Over for macOS and iOS devices 
• Nemeth and literary braille
• Cranmer abacus
• Refreshable braille displays 
• Core Curriculum Subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies) 

Who: NHH-BVI responders are experienced TVIs, tutors, blind mentors, STEM professionals,  and college students 

How: Support requests are submitted by email or phone. Volunteer responders provide call backs from M-Fri 12pm-8pm EST. Most requests receive a response within 24 hours.

To request support, email nationalhomeworkhotline.bvi@gmail.com or call 732-835-6672. 

Include the following information: 

• student’s first name and grade in school
• specific description of the help that is needed
• telephone number for hotline responder to call

We know that many universities and colleges are rapidly shifting to distance learning. We’ve heard that some materials and software being used are inaccessible so we will be offering free Aira for any college student for the remainder of the spring semester ending in May 2020.
