Slamdance 2021 - Director Skinner Myers from The Sleeping Negro

Published: Feb. 26, 2021, 11 p.m.

We're so lucky that Slamdance has provided some deep conversations about race, culture, and community with filmmakers. This interview with director, actor, writer, and film professor Skinner Myers is nothing short of all of these topics and more. The Sleeping Negro tells the story of a young Black man confronted with a series of racially charged incidents, who must overcome rage, alienation, and hopelessness in order to find his own humanity. Skinner, who plays the main character in The Sleeping Negro, also shot this movie on Kodak film in  8 1/2  days.

We dig in with Skinner, who we thank for getting vulnerable with us and talking about how truly racist America  is and how America keeps spitting out shitty humans. We get in to some real talk in this episode and we're very thankful for it.
