Cold 'n Flu Folk Remedies

Published: Feb. 5, 2013, 11:24 p.m.

Carol Newman works endlessly to educate others on how to gain maximum energy and vitality, as well as maintain it in their lives. She does this by teaching them how to take care of their bodies with healthy and organic living

In this episode, Carol talks about old cold and flu folk remedies that have been around for a long time. This is an especially fun episode for people during the cold and flu season.

She interviewed family and friends to learn what they have tried in the past, and what has worked for them. However, she emphasized that this is NOT medical advice, just a collection of ideas and meant for fun.

Listen in to hear her discuss old and well-known folk remedies that have been passed from generation to generation, and whether or not there is any realistic advantage to them.

An Example of what You will Hear…

She starts with the old adage “feed a cold, starve a fever”. Even though the origins of this one are unknown, it was very popular. Carol explains the rationale behind it; eating and drinking would help generate warmth during a cold. On the other hand, it has been said that starving a fever would decrease the temperature of the patient.

How true is this? Carol explains what she learned from experts at Duke University’s Division of General and Internal Medicine, as they said not to put too much stock in this one…but, rather to listen to your body.

More Hype than Help?

Not necessarily true, actually. Listen in to hear what COULD help, such as the following:

-Chicken soup
-Cod liver oil
-Reduction of sugar

Carol evens shares a recipe for chicken soup that was provided to her by a doctor. She then goes on to talk about how the experts either confirm or dispel these old time folk remedies.

Listen in to hear how you can naturally build up your immune system, so you can help lessen the need for these cold and flu folk remedies!
