Character Building - Keeping Your Word

Carol Newman is the driving force behind www.biogirlhealth.com, a website designed to help you get the most out of life while getting the energy and vitality needed to enjoy all life has to offer. Each week the BioGirl Health Show teaches how to keep your body healthy inside and out.

In this episode of the BioGirl Health Show, Carol and host Kimberly Henrie discuss an important character trait, keeping your word, including methods past generations used for achieving it, why it’s so challenging in today’s world, and how it applies to your health.

The Relationship Between Behavior and Character

The episode kicks off with a reflection that in past generations, keeping your word was taken more seriously. If you made a promise, you kept it and nobody needed a contract because a simple handshake sealed the deal.

Then Carol segues into discussing how keeping your word applies to your health. Diet and exercise are only part of the equation. During the episode she also discusses:

- how physical health affects mental health
- what behaviors increase the “happy hormones”
- how behavior reflects on your character
- and so much more!

Keeping Your Word Through All Seasons

Next Carol shares an anecdote from A Man For All Seasons, a play by Robert Bolt that portrays the main character, Thomas More, as the ultimate man of conscience. She gives examples of how Thomas More stays true to himself and preserves his integrity.

Wrapping up the episode, Carol and Kimberly discuss the difference between having good intentions and keeping your word. Then Carol goes on to share what types of things could change a person’s convictions and encourage them to keep their word in the future.
