Binge Movie Aftertaste – X-Men Retrospective w/Matthew Goudreau and Mike Batchelor: The New Mutants (2020)

Before Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe took over all things comic book, there was 20th Century Fox and X-Men. If someone wants to see what the comic book film landscape looked like, just take a look at 1989's Punisher and 1994's Phantom. But then came Blade (which we'll cover eventually), a movie that came out in 1998 and proved that cinematic movies based on comic books could indeed be financially successful. And after a lot of false pretenses and multiple script changes, Marvel's X-Men was finally ready to roll before cameras with little known director Bryan Singer behind the camera. Little did we know that not only would this franchise have a lot of peaks and valleys, but the Mouse House would eventually swallow its rights up whole.  As Christopher Nolan's Tenet was being dubbed the movie that would save cinema, The New Mutants was always touted as the movie that would never get released. After many delays in the script writing process, director Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars) swears that this movie, finally being released after almost three years of delays, is his vision and his vision only. Is it worth the wait? And does this spell the end for the X-Men franchise? Listen in as Matt and myself welcome Batch back to review the movie that almost wasn't. Then again, isn't that true of ALL X-Men movies? The New Mutants (2020) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)   CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTunes
