Binge Movie Aftertaste – Quentin Tarantino Retrospective w/ Alyx Ancira and Jack Falvey: The Written Works of Quentin Tarantino

Published: Oct. 18, 2019, 9 a.m.

He is one of the most influential filmmakers of our generation. If Steven Spielberg ruled the 80s, it is safe to say Quentin Tarantino owned the 90s. His story is almost as famous as his observations of the ways of European McDonalds. A video store clerk who used a few big breaks to his full advantage. But as myself, Jack, and Alyx go through his resume in this retrospective, we will observe whether that still stands true today. We will also review his brand new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and answer whether it is as good as its trailers look. So who was Quentin Tarantino in 1991? Well, he was a struggling actor who had gotten his SAG card by appearing in an episode of Golden Girls as an Elvis impersonator. However, he also had a few scripts roaming around which were eventually taken on by new sets of eyes behind the camera. In 1995, Robert Rodriguez took on the task of directing Tarantino's follow-up script to the one which won him an Oscar in 1994 (Pulp Fiction). Also in 1994, Oscar winning director Oliver Stone, looking for a project which would rebound his career that had started hitting the skids in the early 90s, took on half of the script which would be 'married' to True Romance called Natural Born Killers. And in 1993, slick 80s actioner Tony Scott was looking for a break from getting bossed around by people like Joel Silver by directing 1993's aforementioned True Romance. So how do these movies work without Tarantino guiding their journey? Which movie takes a thrashing which the Binge Aftertaste has never seen before? And why the hell did we do them in this order? Listen below to find out! Big thanks to both the listeners and my co-hosts for going down the journey of Quentin Tarantino's resume, and join us again for when he decides to let his vision hit the screens again. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) Natural Born Killers (1994) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) True Romance (1993) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTunes
