On this episode of KSL's beyond the badge, we honor\\xa0Officer Sioape Lautaha from the Cottonwood Heights Police Department. When an elderly woman flagged down Officer Lautaha after a snow plow had left a large pile of snow in the way, Officer Lautaha responded by grabbing a shovel and helping her to clear the pile of snow. He says that most times people think of the police as just people with badges who enforce laws and arrest people. While that's part of it, the helping aspect sometimes gets overlooked.

KSL's Beyond the Badge recognizes the good work that Utah's public safety officers do every day to make each of our lives better. Listen to Utah's Morning News every weekday as Amanda Dickson highlights the everyday heroes who work tirelessly to keep us safe.

Officers are nominated by their respective police chiefs, sheriffs and supervisors, and the general public. Those featured are selected by a committee composed of representatives from KSL, the Department of Public Safety and Utah Local Governments Trust. KSL has also partnered with the\\xa0Utah Lieutenant Governor\\xa0to help execute the program.

Beyond the badge is sponsored by the Utah Local Government's Trust. Protecting those who protect you. Providing specialized insurance products and services protecting more than 540 local governments. Be safe, and come home.
