Gathering 80: The Pacifist and Memorial Day

Published: May 27, 2019, 2:30 a.m.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we stop to consider the great cost of war in the loss of the countless number of lives of the armed service men and women who paid the ultimate price to secure our national freedom. This cost of war, however, quite often gives rise to a feeling of pacifism as popularized by the trendy bumper sticker stating that “war is not the answer.” For most Christians this statement aligns perfectly with the principles and values of what Jesus was all about. But if war is not the answer, than what is? In a world often divided by inequality and suffering, can justice truly be served without giving to war? Join Pastor Tony Minear, Ph.D. as he explores Jesus’ assertion that peace is possible. Discover some practical ways we as a church can commit to a peaceful world for generations to come, offering as Jesus did a peace that is truly just.
