Gathering 112: Keeping Herod in Christmas

Published: Dec. 31, 2019, 12:30 a.m.

Wait! Stop! Christmas can’t be over already can it? The Christmas nativity story is still fresh in the minds of Christians everywhere. Moving ahead with the story is not going to be pleasant. Are you prepared? According to the gospel account of Matthew, the story continues and paints a very dark period in the aftermath of Jesus’ birth when the paranoid and tyrannical King Herod of Egypt ordered the slaughter of all baby boys under the age of two. Christmas just got dark. Join us this week as our guest speaker, Rev. Peggy Roberts, explores the impact of Jesus’ birth on humanity both then and now. Listen and discover the importance of considering and embracing not only the glory and illuminating message of the nativity story, but also the unsanitized and scandalous account of Herod’s response. Learn how you can face the “Herod’s” of today with faith and reassurance that make God’s love real even in the darkness. Recorded live at Beatitudes Church, Phoenix, AZ on 12/29/19 Preaching: Rev.
