Composed of African American National Guard units, volunteers and draftees, the 93rd Division (Provisional) was loaned to the French Army by an American Expeditionary Force that did not particularly care to have them.\\xa0

These men faced danger and a struggle even before they faced the German enemy--that of the dangers of racist violence back home in the U.S. and discrimination on the Western Front.\\xa0
