Anger is Self Punishment

Published: Dec. 23, 2023, 3 p.m.

b'Generally speaking, we are best served to acknowledge and allow ourselves to experience our emotions. Anger is one of those natural emotions. Leveraged correctly, it can empower us to pursue a just cause or purpose. However, as with any emotion, in excess, anger can become a trap, a pit, or even a grave. Being quick to anger or dwelling there for extended periods can rob us of our creativity and problem-solving abilities. Our decision-making can become skewed, potentially putting us at significant risk. This becomes even more futile when we are consumed by anger over the things we do not control, namely the behaviors and actions of others. When we allow others to use our emotions against us, we enable them to distract and disable us, thus robbing us of our peace and well-being. We are best served to let go of what we do not control and turn our focus to the lesson to be found in what happened instead of remaining upset over what happened.
