Te Daily Mess Tune It Out

Stepping into a morning of writing is always met with a wall of sound. Most writers require the nearest moments of silence. I don’t mind sound. I am bothered though by music. Songs come with attachments, memories and other concentration breakers. The television set and food are no different. But I need sound. There’s energy in it. The goal is to not bury yourself behind closed doors. So how to you take in the presence and lifestyle of others? Your spouse, family members and the dog that won’t quit staring at you? Become part of the distraction. A radio station program director used to stand next to me and hit my arm while I talked on the live show. I finally asked him why. His reply changed me, “A professional tunes things out.” I’m constantly practicing that. I record podcasts on the patio of restaurants, practice my wedding ceremonies in public parks and more. Becoming part of the distraction teaches your sensors to back it down. Trust you inner creative self by giving it multiple places of release. Allow the noise to be your fueling station.
